World Clock — Every Country and US State

Search any country, territory or state to see its current time, time zones and cities.

Your local time, the world clock time in every country and territory, and a set of free time tools — all calculated live in your browser, so nothing lags behind.

What World Clock Does

The clock at the top of this page reads your own time zone, taken from your browser, so it is right the moment the page paints. Everything below it — the city rail, the converter, the sun times — runs on the same engine.

Use the search box to jump to any country, territory or US state, or press Add City in the header to pin the places you check often. Pinned cities stay on your device and appear as small watches under the main clock.

How World Time Works

A world clock is simply a set of clocks showing what time it is in different places at the same instant. The instant is shared; the reading is not. Right now it is 5:11 pm in London, 12:11 pm in New York and 1:11 am in Tokyo — three numbers for one moment.

The reason is longitude. The Earth turns fifteen degrees an hour, so noon sweeps westward continuously. Rather than let every town keep its own solar time, the world is divided into zones that hold a whole hour — or, in some places, half an hour or three quarters of an hour — offset from Coordinated Universal Time.

Choosing the Right Tool

Each tool here answers a different question:

Sun and Moon

Sunrise and sunset are not clock facts, they are sky facts: they depend on where you stand on the planet, not on which zone you keep. Two cities can share a time zone and still see the sun come up forty minutes apart.

The sunrise and sunset pages work the times out from each city’s real coordinates, along with twilight, day length and the moon phase.

Questions People Ask

Where does the time on World Clock come from?

From your own device clock, combined with the time zone rules built into your browser. Nothing is fetched from a server to tell the time, which is why the clock is right the instant the page appears.

Do I need an account, an app or a plugin?

No. Everything runs in the page itself. Pinned cities, clock styles and tool settings are stored on your device and never leave it.

How do I add a city to the clock board?

Press Add City in the header, search for the place, and it appears as a small watch under the main clock. Remove it with the × in its corner.

Why does my city show as somewhere nearby?

The first reading comes from your browser time zone, which identifies a region rather than a town. If the optional lookup is switched on, the label is refined a moment later. Pinning your city gives you an exact one.

Can I switch to a 24-hour clock?

Yes — open Settings in the header and turn off the 12-hour option. The whole site follows, including tables and countdowns.

How do I change the clock face?

The Settings panel has fourteen faces, from a plain analog dial to flip cards, a word clock and a binary display. Your choice sticks on this device.

Is there a dark mode?

Yes. Use the moon button in the header, or the Night Mode switch in Settings. It applies immediately and is remembered.

Why is the time on my computer different from my phone?

One of them is wrong, usually because automatic time is switched off or the device has been offline for a while. Turn on automatic date and time on both, and they will agree.

What is the difference between the converter and the difference calculator?

The converter answers “this exact moment, over there”. The difference calculator answers “how far apart are these two places, all day long”.

Do the countdown timers keep running in the background?

Yes. They are calculated from the finishing moment rather than counted tick by tick, so a background tab does not slow them down.

Can I use World Clock offline?

The clocks, timers, sunrise times and prayer times are all calculated on your device, so they keep working once the page has loaded. Only the optional weather and location lookups need a connection.

Is the site free to use?

Yes, and there is nothing to sign up for.
