Setting an alarm
Set a time, add a label if you want one, choose a tone and press Add alarm. The alarm rings at that time in your own time zone, as long as this page is still open in a tab.
Add as many alarms as you like — they are listed underneath and can be switched off without deleting them. When one rings you can stop it or snooze for five minutes.
What to expect from a browser alarm
Two things to know before you rely on it. First, the tab has to stay open: a browser alarm cannot fire from a closed page. Second, most browsers will not play sound until you have interacted with the page, so press a button once — adding the alarm counts — and the tone will be allowed through.
On a phone, a locked screen or a suspended tab may delay the sound. For anything you must not miss, set your device alarm as well.
Questions people ask
Will the alarm ring if I close the tab?
No. A browser alarm needs its page open. Keep the tab in the background and it will fire on time.
Why did nothing play the first time?
Browsers block sound until you have interacted with the page. Adding an alarm counts as interaction, so it works from then on.
Where do the fifty-one tones come from?
They are generated in the browser with the Web Audio API rather than downloaded, so nothing is fetched and each one plays instantly. That includes the Azan Call tone, which is a synthesised melodic phrase rather than a recording of the adhan.
How many alarms can I set?
As many as you like. They are listed underneath and can be switched off without being deleted.
Do my alarms survive a reload?
Yes — they are stored on your device. The page still needs to be open when one is due.
How long is the snooze?
Five minutes, and it can be used repeatedly.
Can I set an alarm for another time zone?
The alarm uses your own local time. To work out what that is, convert the other city’s time first with the time zone converter.
Will it wake me up in the morning?
It can, but a phone alarm is the safer choice overnight — a locked screen may suspend the browser tab.
Can I use it as a reminder while I work?
That is what it is best at. For repeating work and break cycles, the Pomodoro timer is a better fit.
What happens if my computer is asleep at the alarm time?
It rings as soon as the machine wakes and the tab resumes, which may be later than you set.
Can I change the volume?
Use your system volume. The tone plays at a moderate level so it is audible without being startling.
Does the label do anything?
It appears on screen when the alarm rings, which is useful when several are set for the same afternoon.
