What Mexico Independence Day is

Commemorates the Grito de Dolores of 1810, when the priest Miguel Hidalgo rang his church bell and called for revolt against Spanish rule.

The president repeats the cry from the National Palace balcony on the night of the 15th, and the holiday itself falls on the 16th.
