What Japan Children’s Day is

Kodomo no Hi closes Golden Week. Carp streamers are flown outside houses, one for each family member, because the carp swims upstream against the current.

It was originally Boys’ Day, paired with the Doll Festival in March, and was made a holiday for all children in 1948.
